Product Tagging
Connect Shopify products to your videos to create shoppable experiences with add-to-cart functionality
What Is Product Tagging?
Product tagging is the process of connecting your Shopify products to your videos in ReelPlus. When a video is tagged with a product, customers watching that video can see product information, pricing, and an Add to Cart button -- transforming passive viewers into active shoppers.
Product tagging is the core feature that makes your videos shoppable. Without tags, videos are purely content. With tags, every video becomes a direct sales channel.
Why Tag Products?
| Benefit | Description |
|---|---|
| Shoppable experience | Customers can browse and buy products directly from videos |
| Reduced friction | No need to navigate away from the video to find products |
| Add-to-cart from video | One-click purchasing while watching |
| Product page matching | Product page widgets automatically show relevant videos |
| Analytics tracking | Track which products get the most engagement from video content |
| Higher conversions | Shoppable videos convert at significantly higher rates than static images |
How to Tag Products
Open the Video Editor
Navigate to ReelPlus > Videos and click on the video you want to tag.
Set Interaction Type
In the video editor, find the Interaction Type setting and select "Tag Products". This enables the product tagging interface.
Open Product Tagging
Click the "Tag Products" button or section. A product search panel will appear.
Search for Products
Use the search bar to find products from your Shopify store. You can search by:
- Product title
- SKU
- Product type
- Vendor
Select Products
Click on one or more products to tag them to this video. Each selected product will appear in the tagged products list. You can tag multiple products to a single video.
Review Auto-Populated Info
When you tag a product, ReelPlus automatically pulls in:
- Product title
- Featured image
- Price (including compare-at price)
- Available variants
This information stays synced with your Shopify catalog.
Save
Click Save to confirm the product tags. The video is now shoppable.
Multi-Product Videos: Tag all products featured in a video. For example, if a video shows a complete outfit, tag the top, bottom, shoes, and accessories. Customers will see all products and can add any of them to their cart.
Managing Tagged Products
Remove Products
To remove a product tag from a video:
- Open the video editor
- Navigate to the tagged products list
- Click the remove button (X icon) next to the product you want to untag
- Save changes
Reorder Products
The order of tagged products determines how they appear to customers in the product card overlay:
- Open the video editor
- Drag and drop products in the tagged list to reorder them
- The first product appears as the primary product card
- Save changes
Auto-Synced Product Info
Product information is automatically synchronized with your Shopify catalog:
| Data | Sync Behavior |
|---|---|
| Title | Updated when the Shopify product title changes |
| Price | Reflects current Shopify price (including sales) |
| Compare-at price | Shows the original price for products on sale |
| Image | Uses the current featured image from Shopify |
| Availability | Respects inventory and published status |
Deleted Products: If a tagged product is deleted from your Shopify store, it will be automatically removed from the video's product tags. The video will continue to work with any remaining tagged products.
Product Display in Widgets
When customers interact with a tagged video, products are displayed through several interface elements:
Product Card in Carousel
In carousel widgets, tagged products appear as a small product card overlay on video thumbnails:
- Shows product image and title
- Visible at the bottom of the video thumbnail
- Clicking opens the full modal with product details
Product Overlay in Modal
When a customer opens the full-screen video modal:
- A product card appears alongside the video
- Shows full product details (title, image, price)
- Multiple products appear in a scrollable list
- Clicking a product can navigate to the product page
Add-to-Cart Button
The Add to Cart button enables direct purchasing:
- Appears on the product card in the modal
- Adds the product to the Shopify cart
- Supports variant selection if the product has multiple variants
- Cart updates in real-time without page reload
Price Display
Product pricing is displayed with full Shopify integration:
| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Current price | The active selling price |
| Compare-at price | Shown with strikethrough when a product is on sale |
| Currency | Matches your store's currency settings |
| Discount badge | Automatically calculated percentage off |
Interaction Types
Each video in ReelPlus has an Interaction Type that determines what happens when a customer engages with it:
Tag Products (Recommended)
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Product showcase, demos, reviews, and any sales-focused content |
| How it works | Products appear as shoppable cards in the video player |
| Customer action | View product details, add to cart, or navigate to product page |
| Analytics | Full tracking of views, clicks, add-to-cart events, and conversions |
This is the recommended interaction type for most videos. It provides the richest shopping experience and the most detailed analytics.
Button Link
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Linking to collections, blog posts, landing pages, or external URLs |
| How it works | A customizable button appears on the video |
| Customer action | Clicking the button navigates to the configured URL |
| Analytics | Click tracking only |
Use Button Link when you want to direct customers to a specific page rather than showcasing individual products.
None (Video Only)
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Brand storytelling, educational content, entertainment |
| How it works | Video plays without any interactive overlay |
| Customer action | Watch the video |
| Analytics | View tracking only |
Use this for content that does not have a direct commercial intent, such as brand awareness videos or tutorials.
Switching Types: You can change the interaction type at any time. If you switch from "Tag Products" to "None", the product tags are preserved but hidden. Switching back to "Tag Products" will restore them.
Tips for Effective Product Tagging
Content Strategy
- Show the product in use -- Videos that demonstrate the product in a real-world context convert better than static showcases
- Feature the product early -- The first 3 seconds should clearly show the tagged product
- Keep it focused -- While you can tag multiple products, the video should clearly feature all tagged items
- Update seasonally -- Rotate video content and tags to match seasonal promotions and new arrivals
Tagging Strategy
- Tag every product visible -- If a product appears in the video, tag it. Customers will look for it
- Use product page widgets -- Tag products to automatically populate product page widgets
- Cross-tag related products -- A skincare routine video could tag cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and serum
- Prioritize hero products -- Place your most important product first in the tag order
Performance Optimization
- Monitor analytics -- Check which tagged products get the most clicks and conversions
- A/B test thumbnails -- Different thumbnails can dramatically affect click rates for the same tagged product
- Refresh content -- Update videos for products that are underperforming
- Remove underperformers -- If a product tag consistently gets no clicks, consider whether the video is the right match
Common Mistakes to Avoid
| Mistake | Why It Hurts | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Tagging unrelated products | Customers lose trust when products don't match the video | Only tag products visible or directly relevant to the content |
| Too many tags | Overwhelms customers with choices | Limit to 3-5 products per video for best results |
| No tags at all | Videos become passive content with no conversion path | Tag at least one product for every product-related video |
| Outdated tags | Discontinued products lead to dead ends | Review tags monthly and remove out-of-stock items |
| Wrong interaction type | "None" or "Button Link" when products should be tagged | Default to "Tag Products" for product-focused content |
Product Tagging and Analytics
Every interaction with a tagged product is tracked in your ReelPlus analytics dashboard:
| Event | What It Tracks |
|---|---|
| Video View | Customer watched a video with tagged products |
| Product Click | Customer clicked on a product card |
| Add to Cart | Customer added a tagged product to their cart |
| Conversion | Customer completed a purchase after interacting with a tagged product |
| Revenue | Total revenue attributed to shoppable video interactions |
Use these metrics to understand which videos and product combinations drive the most sales, and optimize your content strategy accordingly.
